Calling all Australian Parishes!

What is special about your parish?  What is unique about the extra-ordinary people in your parish?  What are the wonderful things that are achieved, either within the parish or for others?

John Garratt Publishing wants to acknowledge that the Spirit of God is moving – sometimes in mysterious ways, often very powerfully and mostly unheralded.

We want to give you the opportunity to tell us and Australia (and indeed the world) about what makes your parish distinctive.  It could be the music group; or the refugee outreach. It might be your Parish Priest or Pastoral Associate or that person who sits in the back row but who is always there when the call goes out for help.  It might be the link the parish has with the school, or the local hospital.  There are just so many possibilities.

Tell us in no more than 1000 words (700 would be better) about your parish, the group, the ministry or the person you would like to acknowledge.  And if possible, please supply a photograph.

A selection of the most encouraging or inspiring or heartfelt will be published through Voices

The best published in a quarter will receive a $250 John Garratt Gift Voucher for the parish. These then will form the year’s finalists and the one judged the overall winner will receive a $1000 John Garratt Gift Voucher.

faith as part of every day living

We need a spirituality for creative expectations and blessings for all our modern forms of technology. They ought to serve our growth and not stunt our spirit. We need to bless our (mobile) phones so they really connect us to each other in a fruitful way rather than disconnecting us from reality…

Hello again, companion on my journey.

You are my friend – not my master!

You are like an angel at my side.

May I exercise restraint

And only dial from the side of the road.

May my answering be brief,

my road attention alert.

O God, bless your presence.

O God, bless this road.

O God, bless my arrival.

Blessings for the Fast Paced & Cyberspaced

breathing life into Australia's religious conversation

Voices
gives breath to the conversation on how we make sense of, and contribute to, living within a religious context within our contemporary Australia.

Through its articles, photographs, reflections, questions, invitations and links, it articulates the hopes, frustrations and dreams of people living and working, often at the ‘grass roots’, but always in faith and trust within a spiritual context.

While its roots are within Christian belief, people of other faiths and indeed all people of goodwill who are searching, are welcome to add their voices to the conversation.

The current edition of Voices is what you see on this home page.  The menu buttons at the top of the page are for archival purposes.
Voices will no longer be published in "edition" format but new articles will be added on a regular basis.  The new article will appear at the top of the left hand column and one of the exisitng articles - usually the bottom one - will be archived.

Although the menu buttons have new names, the general categories are similar to those in the earlier Voicesilluminations (ideas and books), VIII (future church), whiteboard (classroom journal), more than the mortgage (the Spirit in Australia), Who God? Me? (my faith life) and making belief (faith and creativity).

CONTRIBUTIONS ARE WELCOME although no guarantee of publication is given.
Please email the editor, Penny Edman,
at voices@johngarratt.com.au
or telephone her on 0400 896 191.
